Overview

The North Coast 500 is a stunning trip around the coastal roads of the Scottish Highlands. Discover rugged mountain landscapes, far-flung sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and traditional coastal villages. Numerous adventures await you on land, sky and sea. Hiking, biking, climbing, kayaking, fishing, wildlife spotting and so much more. We'll help plan your route, reserve your campsites and give you tips of the best locations for wild camping.

We'll provide you with your NC500 app, maps, campsite reservations, any bookings for activities, excursions, entry tickets, restaurant reservations. You can be as organised as you like, or simply hit the road and see where the road takes you.

Your vehicle comes fully equipped, fuelled up, with all bedding and starter pack included. We recommend you book campsites with electric hook up, and facilities to suit your group. And if you let us know your interests, we will be happy to recommend stopping places to suit you best. Our vans come fitted with bike racks if you want to take them on your trip. The bigger motorhomes have boot space of carrying additional outdoor gear and equipment.

There is safe parking at our main collection depot near Glasgow Airport, so you can safely leave your own car for your return. We can also arrange local transfers if you're arriving by rail or plane.

There are endless ways to segment your journey, you do have 500 miles + detours to explore. You can theme your trip according to your interests. We will tailor an itinerary to suit your timeframe and preferred activities.

  • Visit Inverness Castle and climb the tower
  • Afternoon cruise on Loch Ness monster-hunting aboard the Jacobite Prince to see the castles, monuments and spectacular scenery of the deepest body of water in Britain. Or jump aboard a fast RIB for a speedy 1-hour boat trip of the loch and sighting of Urquhart Castle.
  • Drive to Beauly for your first night under the roof of your cosy mobile home. Hotel accommodation available if this your preference.
  • We can recommend great places to eat out if you don't want to cook and eat in.
  • You can pick up supplies at the independent shops and supermarkets in Beauly
  • DAY TWO - Explore Black Isle
  • The Black Isle Peninsula is a short drive east, surrounded on three sides by water and has the best onshore locations for seeing dolphins.
  • You can also take a boat trip out to get up close to the dolphins.
  • Black Isle is also brim full of history with castles, cairns, a cathedral and three museums, like the Groam House in Rosemarkie with it's Celtic and Pictish collections.
  • All over Scotland, you can visit whisky distilleries and breweries. Glen Ord Distillery offers tours and tastings.
  • If you've brought your mountain bikes, you'll enjoy visiting Learnie Red Rock with all ability mountain biking trails to suit all the family.
  • Drive north into Sutherland and explore the fishing villages of the east coast.
  • Dornoch is a beautiful town with the world-famous Royal Dornoch Golf Course and the wonderful Dornoch beach. It's famed for it's antique, gift and craft shops.
  • Further north Golspie is the location of the magical Dunrobin Castle & Gardens. Home to clan Sutherland and the first Duke of Sutherland. Lots here to interest all the family, with falconry displays, a museum and the castle and gardens. Oh, and a distillery!
  • Nearby you will find the fantastically unique geological museum Timespan Heritage Centre, and learn more about the past, present and future of our planet.
